Unknown origin but presumed to have arisen in Kent, UK. First recorded 1790. Received RHS Award of Merit 1901. Grown in Victorian England. Large, round-conical fruit. Bright red flush and stripes over greenish yellow skin. The sharp, juicy, flesh cooks to a pale creamy yellow puree requiring little added sugar. Acidity fades in storage making it suitable for use as a dessert apple by December. Moderately vigorous tree. Good, precocious cropper.
